Donated by the Dubai Civil Defense to the Emirates Literature Foundation, the ELF Reading Caravan is a mobile library that brings an engaging selection of books to school students all over the UAE. While we are currently unable to lend books, readers are welcome into our brand new and student-friendly space for a dedicated reading experience.

ELF Reading Caravan visits are organized by the Emirates Literature Foundation to offer a unique literary experience for students to cultivate a love of reading and discover the thrill of discovering books in a unique outdoor setting!

How the ELF Reading Caravan School Visits Work

How to Apply for an ELF Reading Caravan Visit

School visits are scheduled based on the Caravan’s availability. To increase your chances of securing your preferred date, we recommend submitting your request as early as possible. If your chosen date is no longer available, our team will do their best to suggest an alternative to accommodate your request.

How to Prepare for an ELF Reading Caravan Visit

          • Prior to the visit, we would like to encourage host schools to review the book selection available on our ELF Publishing LLC* website here and place your book orders directly on the website for delivery to your school. We advise schools to place a minimum order of 25 books for their school library or students.
          • Allocate a shaded parking space for the Caravan and get any necessary authorization/approvals for this activity.
          • Ensure that you have allocated time in student schedules for the day to visit the Caravan.
          • Inform parents and the school community about the Caravan Visit, either through a newsletter or a special announcement, to create interest and excitement.
          • Keep an eye on your email! We work closely with schools to communicate all the necessary details for the visit.

What to do on the Day of the ELF Reading Caravan Visit

In order to have a successful and enjoyable Author School Visit, please kindly follow the guidelines below:

  • The Caravan must be parked at a suitable location based on the school’s preferred timings for the students to enjoy their time with it.
  • Make sure that the students are ready for the Caravan visit. They can come in groups of 10-15 students for a recommended 10-15 mins per group.
  • Schools must ensure that the students are always supervised during the Caravan visit, and that the books are returned in their original/perfect condition and placed where they were picked up from on the shelves.
  • We recommend that the school librarian be present at the Caravan visit to take note of student choices as there would be an opportunity later to order the books your students like from the Caravan through Magrudy’s, our official booksellers.
  • Schools must provide a point-of-contact who will ensure that all books are returned to the Caravan at the end of the day.
  • A staff member from the Emirates Literature Foundation will be present on the day of the visit to ensure a seamless experience for the students.

Terms and Conditions

  • We would like to encourage host schools to place a minimum order of 25 books for their school library or students at: https://elfpublishing.me/shop/
  • Schools must ensure that the students are always supervised during the Caravan visit, and that the books are returned in their original/perfect condition and placed where they were picked up from on the shelves.
  • Please note that the ELF Reading Caravan is presently a non-borrowing library.
  • Schools/teachers are in charge of student safety at all times during their visit to the ELF Reading Caravan.
  • The schools participating in the ELF Reading Caravan agree to the Emirates Literature Foundation’s use of photographs and videos of students in relation to any related publicity material and activities. Schools and students should be aware that they might need to obtain parental consent for this.
  • Caravan visits will take place year-round, except for during school/public holidays. Please note that there is greater availability of the Caravan visit dates from late February to early July. The ELF Reading Caravan will have a limited number of visits from September to January.
  • The Emirates Literature Foundation reserves the right to cancel the ELF Reading Caravan visit if the school does not comply with the Terms and Conditions and guidelines stated above.
